Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

How does ClaudeUsageBar get my usage data?
ClaudeUsageBar uses your session cookie from claude.ai to fetch your usage data directly from Anthropic's API. Your cookie is stored locally on your machine and is never sent anywhere else.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your session cookie and usage data never leave your computer. There's no analytics, no telemetry, and no data collection of any kind. ClaudeUsageBar is fully open source, so you can inspect every line of code.
How do I get my session cookie?
Go to claude.ai/settings/usage, open Developer Tools (Cmd+Option+I), go to the Network tab, refresh the page, click the "usage" request, and copy the full "Cookie" value from the Request Headers.
Why do I need to grant Accessibility permissions?
Accessibility permissions are only needed if you want to use the Cmd+U keyboard shortcut to open the popup from anywhere. The app works fine without it – you just won't have the global shortcut.
Does it work with Claude Free and Pro plans?
Yes! ClaudeUsageBar works with both Free and Pro plans. Pro users will also see their weekly Sonnet usage if available.
The app shows "Session cookie not set" – what do I do?
Click on the menu bar icon, then click "Set Session Cookie" and paste your full cookie string from claude.ai. Make sure you're copying the entire cookie value, not just the sessionKey part.
